Bio
Joanne Turney Bauers major life involvement has been in the field of art. She earned a BA degree from The George Washington University. She pursued graduate work at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC, studying with Gene Davis of the Washington Colorist School and with James Twitty, also internationally renowned. Further studies were at the Art Students League in New York City.
Her works have been featured in national and international juried, group and solo shows: at La Casa de Cultura in Spain, and the Sotogrande Poste Hotel, and in New York in SOHO, at several galleries, in the CitiBank, at Lincoln Center and in major office buildings. In Washington, DC she has had exhibitions at the Arts Club, at Gilpin Gallery and others. Her work is in both corporate and private collections in the US and Pakistan and in Spain, on the Costa del Sol and Mallorca
She states, “I feel as if I am the instrument through which the spirit of life can be revealed on canvas. This is a wonderful gift and I treat it with respect. I trust the Divine mind within me to be my leader and guide.” “My desire is to peel away the visible exterior and expose what is beneath – color, texture, spirit, love, light.
The series of 13 paintings which she completed while undergoing radiation treatment for breast cancer, called “The Art of Healing,” have been exhibited at the Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia and on the Manhattan Arts International Website in New York. Each painting is accompanied by poignant prose.
Her painting, classical piano, and her writing - all these have both influenced and been influenced by her living life to the fullest, whether in the US, in Karachi, Pakistan, or in Spain and through world travel. Her painting and writing talents have been combined in “The Art of Joyful Aging,” a book to illustrate and affirm the beauty, harmony, energy and joy that surrounds and enfolds us at any age.
